Rock.It Boy Entertainment presents Sweet, Thursday, June 14 at the Cascades Casino Summit Theatre in Langley.
Do you remember your first car and the killer radio you rocked out to? Re-live the glory days of your youth with Sweet. Coming at you with the hits “Ballroom Blitz”, “Fox on the Run”, “Teenage Rampage”, “Love is Like Oxygen”, “Little Willy”, “Hellraiser”, “Action” and the platinum-selling “Blockbuster”, Sweet has been playing to sold-out audiences throughout Canada and the U.S. With a cover version of The Beatles “Ticket to Ride”, Sweet handles it all, “from bubblegum pop to crunchy, hook-laden rock classics” with sweet ease.
This legendary rock band has its roots firmly planted in the U.K. In 1968, four rockers formed a group that became a rock phenomenon, taking every continent by storm. “Blockbuster” shot to the top of the charts and Sweet kept the hits coming, ultimately selling more than 40 million albums.
This powerhouse garnered its greatest praise from contemporaries. Gene Simmons said, “Without Sweet there would not have been a KISS.” Nikki Sixx of Mötley Crüe added “We wanted to be Sweet.” Not to be outdone, Joe Elliot of Def Leppard said, “This is the band I wish I had been in.”
With the departure of Brian Connolly the band could not remain as it was; they disbanded in 1981. But, just like the phoenix, something beautiful can never die. Assembled in 2008, original member Steve Priest’s version of Sweet hasn’t missed a beat. With perfect harmonies coupled with an intense mastery, these guys prove themselves true students of Sweet’s musical catalogue and style. This show is off the hook, so be there or be square!
