James Lamb is a Canadian songwriter born of a large family of folk musicians from the Kootenay mountains in British Columbia. Since 2005, Lamb has toured numerous times across the country performing on large stages and in tiny rural nooks with bands such as Headwater, Fish & Bird and Maria in the Shower, and alongside other solo performers Luke Doucet, Veda Hille, David Newberry, Dan Mangan and Rae Spoon, to name a few.
Lamb, who plays at Creston’s Snoring Sasquatch on April 21, has been featured on CBC Radio 1 programs North by Northwest and All Points West, performed for two Canada Live recording sessions for Radio 2, is a 2009 Arts Wells songwriting competition award winner, a headliner at Midsummer Folk Festival 2010 in Smithers and is preparing for his CD release tour.
His following across Canada is no small thing. Whether playing solo, or backed by any number of talented musicians (from bands: Niktex, Morlove, Tequila Mockingbird Orchestra, Language Arts, Buffaloswans, Headwater, Fond of Tigers and more), Lamb’s dedicated fans take every opportunity to see/hear him play and relish the opportunity to interact with his generous stage show.
His live presentation can haunt a room with thoughtful joy, and his unique voice, fascinating composition, and commanding stage presence can plunge even the noisiest bar goers into mesmerized silence.
James’ long and dearly awaited sophomore album, Imagineering, is due to hit the folk charts this year.
“James is a storyteller with unconventional compositions and lyrics that explore the most contemporary issues in our Canadian culture, often originating in personal experiences with humanity,” said songwriter David Francey. “He is a compelling performer in show, his sharp observations delivered in a deceptively gentle manner, his voice an instrument of pure delight. His view of the world reflects his generations and I can only say the future is in good hands.”
“I have had some of my most visceral responses to songwriting/music/performance at his shows,” said Martin Reisle of Maria in the Shower. “I can without reserve say that his is a performance I would recommend without question.”
“A symphonic experience, the songwriting is peerless and completely catchy and I have been raving about these guys since I saw them play,” said K.C. of Halifax’s Left Hip Magazine. “Let’s hope word of mouth catches on!”
The doors open at 7 p.m. and the show starts at 8. Tickets $10 in advance, available at Kingfisher Used Books and Black Bear Books, or $12 at the door. For more information, visit www.jameslambmusic.com.
