This fall, pianist Amanda Tosoff is back, performing a mini-tour across Canada’s west coast.
Starting in Langley on Oct. 30, Tosoff will be showcasing her latest releases with a handful of incredibly talented artists.
On this first leg of her tour, Tosoff will be accompanied by musicians Lydia Persaud (vocals), Jon Maharaj (bass) and Morgan Childs (drums).
Tosoff is a BC-raised, Toronto-based pianist, composer and bandleader with five albums to her credit.
Through her albums, she has established herself as an exciting new talent on the Canadian jazz scene, and has performed with many internationally recognized artists, including Ingrid Jensen, Emilie-Claire Barlow, Phil Dwyer, Christine Jensen, Kelly Jefferson and Jodi Proznick.
Tosoff and her group have recorded for CBC Radio Programs Hot Air, Tonic, Jazz Beat, Canada Live and Espace Musique’s series, Portraits Jazz.
On Words, her latest release, Tosoff takes an adventurous leap beyond conventional jazz.
She uses poems and lyrics that possess personal resonances for her, and has framed them in original, new compositions that utilize vocals for the first time. The vocals are sung by Felicity Williams of the bands Hobson’s choice, Broken Social Scene and Bahamas.
The result is an eclectic collection, incorporating elements of pop, art song, classical, folk and jazz.
Join Tosoff in Langley on Oct. 30 at the Rose Gellert Hall at the Langley Community Music School, 4899 207 St.
The event is on from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Tickets range from $10 to $18 and are available online at https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/amanda-tosoff-friends-tickets-25942742441
