As Mission singer Carly Rae Jepsen’s success continues to grow, she has not forgotten her roots in the Fraser Valley.
The international star is donating $60,000 to help support students in the Mission school district.
Most of the money ($50,000) will be used to set up a bursary at Mission Community Foundation, and given each year to a student pursuing post secondary studies or training in the fine and performing arts. This includes, but not limited to, students with an interest in voice, instrumental, dance, drama, music creation/production and musical theatre.
An additional $1,000 will be added to make the bursary available in the sping this year.
Jepsen is also donating $9,000 to be split between the fine and performing arts departments in Mission’s three high schools, Hatzic secondary, Heritage Park, and Mission Secondary.
“I am very fortunate to have had the opportunity to be part of these programs and to receive the support of dedicated teachers,” said Jepsen, who says she simply wanted to give something back to the community that has supported her throughout her career.
