John and Sandra Barth were one of the recipients of this year’s B.C. community achievement awards.

They are known as diligent, behind-the-scenes volunteers, contributing at numerous community events in Burns Lake.

Over the past 40 years, and always side-by-side, John and Sandra have lent their positive attitudes and energy to countless organizations, including the Burns Lake and District Seniors Society, the B.C. Seniors Games, Terry Fox run, the Lakes District Arts Council, along with projects for youth and rural outreach programs.

“We were very surprised to hear of our nomination and selection for the B.C. achievement award,” said John. “Of course it was a pleasant surprise, and we’re most honoured, and a bit humbled, to be included on a list of many prominent British Columbians.”

The recipients of the 2017 awards were recognized in a formal presentation ceremony in Victoria last week, but John and Sandra were not able to attend.

“We will miss the award ceremony this year, sadly, as we had already made our current travel plans many weeks before hearing of our nomination and award,” explained John.

Burns Lake Mayor Chris Beach said John and Sandra’s award was “extremely well deserving.”

The British Columbia Achievement Foundation is an independent foundation established and endowed by the province to celebrate excellence in arts, humanities, enterprise and community service. Launched in 2003, the B.C. community achievement awards were the first initiative of the foundation.
