Mark your calendars for the June 24 and 25, 8th Annual Kids Learn To Fish Program at Johnson Lake Resort.
The annual event is looked forward to by children and families throughout the valley.
“In our seven years of putting this program on, we have been instrumental in teaching over 250 children the joys of the sport of freshwater fishing,” says resort owner Barb Lewko.
“This program is put on by the Freshwater Fisheries Society, who provide the instructors and the teaching materials, and is supported by the Family Fishing Society of BC who provide fishing rods and tackle, which we give away to the participants. It has been enjoyed by children and parents alike, and we are looking forward to putting on another successful program this year.”
This fun-filled day is for children ages five to 15 years, with the curriculum including:
• Fish Identification and Habitat
• Familiarization with Fishing Rods and Tackle
• Learn to Tie Knots
• Casting and Retrieving
• Proper Fish Handling
• Fishing on beautiful Little Johnson Lake
• A tour to view spawning rainbow trout
• A barbecue lunch
*And all the youngster’s fishing gear is supplied
There is plenty of fun for the parents, plus prizes and tackle give-aways.
There will be a choice of two sessions if enough children register: one session on Saturday, June 24, and one session on Sunday, June 25. Both sessions will run from 10 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Space is limited, and participants need to register in advance with the Resort,” says Lewko. “Bring your child’s lifejacket if you have one, and cool and wet weather gear – just in case.”
This event is sponsored by Johnson Lake Resort, the Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC, The Family Fishing Society of BC, and Turkey’s Party Makers.
