For The Morning Star
One of Vernon Jazz Club patrons’ favourite performers will be gracing our stage this Saturday for a sold-out show. Judy Rose is set to wow us once again with her powerful and passionate singing.
From school choirs to singing professionally as a lead vocalist, Rose has had a lifelong involvement with music. In Ontario, her involvement was first with an acoustic trio and then segueing into a full-fledged rock band. In Saskatchewan, Rose performed as a bilingual artist. Finally, after venturing further west to British Columbia, she blossomed into the blues and jazz singer we know and love.
Rose has performed on stages in New York, Chicago, Austin, Memphis, Paris and London in her travels, and her jazz and blues ensemble, Judy Rose and the Pretty Boys, regularly had sold-out shows at our club, as well as an exclusive performance at the Vernon Performing Arts Centre.
Always captivating and deeply entertaining, Rose shares her unique interpretation on jazz, pop, and French songs that speak to her heart, bringing you on a journey that is not soon forgotten.
Rose returns to the Vernon Jazz Club with a killer band. Neville Bowman is a renowned pianist and another favourite VJS performer. A first-call musician throughout the valley, a regular adjudicator and clinician at the BC Interior Jazz Festival, and acting on stage in musical productions keeps Bowman well-engaged in the Okanagan arts scene.
Stephen Buck is an incredibly talented and well-experienced clarinet, saxophone and flute player. After training in Ontario with musical stints in both Vancouver and Toronto, he moved to Europe and began an illustrious career.
Since transferring to Kelowna in 2010, Buck has been a popular addition to the likes of the Okanagan Symphony Orchestra, Kelowna City Band, Jazz Café, Major Mambo and Michael Garding Big Band.
Scott Gamble is a top-notch drummer and percussionist living in Kelowna. He has worked with a broad range of artists, bands and orchestras from progressive metal to high-end jazz, to symphonic, and musical theatre. Gamble is a sought-after studio musician and has played on more than 60 recordings.
Brian McMahon is a versatile musician, who calls Vernon his hometown. Actively involved in the Vernon Jazz Club since its inception, he is engrossed in our music scene, as well. Whether playing bass, trombone or saxophone, he is always in his element and never more than when playing his first love, jazz music.
Loni Moger is a premiere guitar player. His influences include B.B. King, Dizzy Gillespie, Duke Ellington, Thelonious Monk and Miles Davis. Since relocating in Kelowna, he has been an in-demand guitarist and singer, playing and recording at many venues.
Marshall Rasmussen is a trumpet player, who received his degree in jazz performance at McGill in Montreal. During his studies, he had the chance to learn from and perform with some of the best musicians in Canada. Well-versed in both jazz and funk, Marshall has returned to the Okanagan to carve out a career as a professional musician.
Judy Rose & The Killer B’s will be onstage at the Vernon Jazz Club (3000-31 St.) Saturday at 8 p.m. Doors open at 7:15 p.m. There is a cash only bar on site. This show is now sold out. More information on future Vernon Jazz Society gigs and ticket sales are available at www.vernonjazz.com.
