Family, friends and fans of Chemainus tenor Ken Lavigne have two chances to see him perform in this area around Valentine’s Day.
This Sunday (Feb. 12), Lavigne is performing a special Valentine concert, Be My Love, in Duncan.
Presented by the Palm Court Light Orchestra, Be My Love takes place at 2:30 p.m. at the Quw’utsun Cultural Centre.
Tickets are available by calling the Cowichan Theatre box office at 250-748-7529 and at the door.
Be My Love is a celebration of tenor Mario Lanza. It is also the final concert in the Palm Court Light Orchestra’s Silver Jubilee Season.
Through his many records, films and television appearances, Lanza became a household name in many parts of the world.
Lavigne shares a high regard for both the quality of Lanza’s voice and his musicianship.
For his appearance with the Palm Court Light Orchestra, Lavigne will sing O Sole Mio, Granada, Funiculi Funicula, Because, Torna a Surriento, Nessun Dorma and Lanza’s signature song, Be My Love.
Lavigne will be the guest artist in another Valentine presentation Sat., Feb. 18 at the Port Theatre in Nanaimo.
In a season dedicated to Music for Your Heart and Soul, the Vancouver Island Symphony, under the baton of Pierre Simard, presents Believe Feb. 18 at 7:30 p.m.
Throughout a program of familiar ballads, show tunes and classical cross-over favourites (and surprises), Lavigne weaves a thread, joining each song with anecdotes, mostly of the humorous kind, that have audiences rollicking with laughter.
All the while, it’s his music that will touch the heart, with a voice that Cabaret Exchange of New York describes as being like “… liquid gold.”
Tickets for Believe are available by calling 250-754-8550.
