The next offering from Kitchen Stove Films is the Ken Loach film I, Daniel Blake.
The winner of the coveted 2016 Palm d’Or award at Festival de Cannes, the unapologetic political drama touches the soul and reminds of the power of simple compassion.
Daniel Blake is an affable 59-year-old middle class widower in Newcastle recovering from a heart attack and seeking financial assistance from the state. Government illogic stipulates that his benefits will be taken away unless he looks for work, yet doctor’s orders prevent him from working.
At the welfare office, Daniel meets single mother Katie, whom he befriends, offering his platonic friendship and gentle, grandfatherly support to her and her two children.
The film stars Dave Johns and Hayley Squires.
I, Daniel Blake will be screened twice on April 27 at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. at Landmark Cinemas in Penticton. Tickets are sold at the Penticton Art Gallery and The Book Shop (242 Main St.) Limited single tickets may be available at the door for $15. Pre-purchased single tickets are $13 each.
