Kootenay Festival starts Wednesday

The two-week Kootenay Festival of the Performing Arts has been a cultural cornerstone in Nelson and Trail and surrounding communities since 1930 and is one of the oldest festival traditions in BC.

Its goals have always been to inspire, educate, evaluate and promote regional students in the performing arts disciplines of piano, strings, woodwinds, voice, choral, dance, drama and speech arts. The festival supports the many disciplines of performing arts teaching in our region, through schools and private teachers.

Dance begins at the Capitol on Wednesday at 5 p.m, and runs full days Thursday, Friday and Saturday, with the highlights concert on Saturday at 7 p.m.

Speech arts and vocal/choral at the Bethel Christian Church and strings, guitar, piano and woodwinds are at St. Saviour’s Church, April 11 to 16 with the highlights concert April 16 at 7 p.m. at the Capitol Theatre.

All sessions are open to the public and are by donation. For more information, visit kootenayfestivalofthearts.ca.
