When Timothy Grey quits his job to write a book about one of the Royal City’s forefathers, his friend, Conrad, finds an unorthodox way to ensure that the historic details are correct.
With the help of a psychic seamstress, Conrad restores the resident ghost and sets off a chain of events that turns history upside down.
Add in a glamorous fiancée, a cranky landlord, a pizza-delivery man, and a pretty librarian from the downstairs suite, and the result is a charming comedy filled with romance and high spirits.
Body and Soul, Vagabond Players’ fall production, runs Oct. 6 to 29 at the The Bernie Legge Theatre, Queen’s Park, New Westminster.
Langley’s Jacqollyne Keath stars as Mary Fairfax, the resident ghost whose manifestation produces all kinds of surprises for the tenants who live in the house she has haunted since the early part of the twentieth century.
Keath’s versatility as an actress, singer, choreographer, director and producer has made her much in demand with Lower Mainland theatre groups and Vagabond Players staff say they are thrilled to welcome her back to play this deliciously spirited role in such a challenging new play.
Keath, who studied theatre and dance at SFU, has been mostly behind the scenes with Vagabond players over the last several years. Her roles include director, sound designer as well as producer for many successful Vagabond Players shows. Most recently she produced Over the River and Through the Woods, and she was last on stage in Fiddler on the Roof as Granny Tzeitl.
Following Body and Soul she will be directing Art by Yasmina Reza for Sidekick Players.
Body and Soul’s cast also includes Alex Ross as the struggling writer, Heather Evens as the fiancée who disapproves of his new way of life, and Tracy Labrosse as the librarian who has a lot more going for her than a knowledge of musty old books.
Jeremy Heynen and Alison Main-Tourneur are Conrad, the technical whizz, and Tibby, the psychic, who between them, restore Mary Fairfax, the resident ghost.
The cast is rounded out by Robert Bowes as the cranky landlord and Rob Larsen as Ernie, the pizza-delivery man.
Written and directed by local playwright and mystery author, Elizabeth Elwood, Body and Soul runs Thursday to Saturday at 8 p.m. with Sunday matinees at 2 p.m.
Tickets are $17 or $15 for seniors/youth. Previews on Oct. 6 and 7 are $12; Purchase your tickets at www.vagabondplayers.ca/tickets or call 604-521-0412.
