Langley designer reveals eco-conscious lingerie at student fashion show

Tayler Anderson has been sewing since age 10, and now she’s unveiling her own line of bras, underwear, and bodysuits.

After picking up a needle and thread at age 10, Langley’s Tayler Anderson decided that fashion was for her.

Poised to graduate from the Wilson School of Design at Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) this spring, Anderson will unveil her thesis line, zygomorfic, during the Imperial Vancouver late  this week.

Anderson’s graduate collection showcases eco-friendly intimate apparel consisting of soft bras, underwear, bodysuits, and lounge pieces in primarily natural fabrics for everyday wear.

“I’ve had a love for lingerie for a while but I wanted to create something practical that’s not too harmful on the environment and really safe for your body so no synthetic fabrics on sensitive areas,” Anderson said.

She developed the line as part of her final project before graduating from KPU’s four-year fashion design and technology program this May.

The program provides students what is described as a “rigorous studio-based design education” including

The capstone project involves extensive market and design research, requiring students to create garments that meet a perceived market need.

“I can’t believe that my time at KPU is coming to an end after four years of learning what I’m capable of – if I push myself,” said Anderson. “I’m so excited that my collection, zygomorfic, is coming to life. Seeing it on the runway will be incredible for me.”

After getting a job in the fashion industry, Anderson plans to eventually follow in her parents’ footsteps and run her own business.

In the meantime, her collection will be part of the fashion show, aptly named 2017 The Show. It’s an industry-grade event, presented by Tamoda Apparel, will take place Wednesday and Thursday, April 5 and 6, at the Imperial Vancouver.

It will showcase 28 emerging designers and their collections. Display will be lines for men, women, and children – from feminine motorcycle wear to genderless eco-conscious clothing.

During six shows, everything from technical apparel to travel wear to lingerie will walk the runway at B.C.’s biggest student fashion show.

Tickets are $22 and on sale at kpu.ca/2017fashionshow
