Kristin Carter will represent B.C. in the 2018 Canadian Country Music Association (CCMA) Spotlight Performance Contest.
The Langley Fine Arts grad took the top spot in the provincial segment over other local contenders, The Heels and Kadooh.
She will now compete for votes against her provincial rivals for an opportunity to win a grand prize package that includes a performance during Country Music Week 2018 in Hamilton, Ont. this September.
“Every year, the talent that emerges from our province astounds me,” said Linda Corscadden, president of the British Columbia Country Music Association, in a press release.
“Every contestant that entered the contest brought their ‘A’ game. The judges certainly had their work cut out for them in every round of the three-month contest run. I’m very proud of all of our artists — we have the best in the West. Kristin will represent the BCCMA well. I wish her and the rest of the provincial winners all the best in the national portion of the contest.”
For Carter — who is now based in Vancouver — this represents the latest milestone in an emerging career. Along with her success in the CCMA 2018 Spotlight Performance Contest, Carter was also a semi-finalist in the 2018 Sirius XM Top of the Country Contest.
“Growing up in B.C. my whole life, I am incredibly excited and honoured to be representing my home province in the CCMA 2018 Spotlight Performance Contest,” Carter said in a press release.
Canadian country music fans now have the final voice in choosing the winner by casting their votes at surveymonkey.com/r/QWKR5FB until 5 p.m. EST on June 22.
The final winner will be announced on June 30.
