It’ll be a hometown revelry at Friday’s Valley First Music in the Park in Armstrong.
Playing the last free outdoor concert of the summer is The Whiskee Zippers, a band consisting of musicians who call Armstrong and Spallumcheen home.
Members of the musically motivated group – Harry Morgan on guitar and vocals, Mike Brooks on mandolin, Gaz Jordan on lead guitar, Rod MacDonald on up-right bass and Patrick Simpson on banjo – say they enjoy generating alternative folk-rock music with a twist of fun.
The core group initially got together to help their friend Morgan record a CD for his family and friends.
With Brooks sharing his musical knowledge and knowhow, they practised through the long winter and started to sound like a band.
The Whiskee Zippers have since gone on to play coffee houses and open mics, and more gigs are in store, including tonight’s last Valley First Music in the Park of the summer.
Put on by the Armstrong Spallumcheen Chamber of Commerce and Valley First credit union in Armstrong’s Memorial Park, the show starts at 7 p.m. and non-perishable food items will be accepted for the Valley First Feed the Valley program.
