Singing is good for your body and soul.
And Mary Dennison and the Sing For Pure Joy! community choir want to help you realize all the benefits that come along with it.
In a press release, Dennison notes that “singing in a choir boosts your mental health; choir members who sing together have synchronized heartbeats.”
The February 2010 edition of Yoga magazine notes that “Your voice is like a fingerprint. Your voice is unique only to you, and your soul tunes in the moment it hears your vocal frequency.” Further proof to Dennison that “singing is our birthright.”
Dennison says signing is as beneficial to your body as yoga and is helpful to people diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and Parkinson’s disease, people who suffer from blocked airways and ravaged lungs and people recovering from strokes.
“There are so many books and articles in print and on the airwaves regarding the physical, neurological and psychological benefits of singing in a choir — not singing in the shower on your own, but singing in the joyful company of others,” says Dennison.
Dennison directs Sing For Pure Joy! and she encourages everyone to come and be part of the choir.
Sing For Pure Joy! is a community choir that gathers at The Lodge on 4th at 1127 Fourth Ave. in Ladysmith on Saturday evenings from 6:30-8 p.m.
It is a non-auditioned choir, and all voices are welcome. No written music is used, and no experience is needed. Melodies, harmonies, chants and rounds a re taught in the traditional method of call and response, according to the press release.
