Fans of the iconic Leonard Cohen will want to be at the Mercury Theatre Saturday night, as Ron Ingram and band Sweet Island Soul brings their tribute to the late, great Canadian songwriter and poet to Duncan.
“One of the band’s specialties is presenting an evening featuring the work of a particular artist,” said band member John Robertson in promoting the event. “Last spring it was a JJ Cale presented in Parksville, Nanaimo and Duncan. This time around it will feature Leonard Cohen’s work.”
Sweet Island Soul features vocals and guitar by Ron Ingram, Tanya Gillespie on vocal and keyboard, Cara McCandless on vocals, Harry Williams on sax, fiddle and lap steel guitar, Charley Wade on Drums and Robertson on double bass.
Robertson says the Mercury Theatre is the perfect venue for dancing and listening. The show is Sept. 15, with doors opening at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 at the door, or $15 in advance from eventbrite.com/leonardcohentribute/sweetislandsoul
