Lisa Leslie of 100 Mile House never in a million years thought she would ever enter a beauty pageant.
Watching the Miss Universe Pageant on television got the wheels turning, though, and inspired the 15-year-old to seek out the largest teen pageant she could find.
After a telephone interview and filling out forms for the Miss Teen British Columbia – World, Leslie was surprised and elated to get the word that she was one of 43 young women who had been chosen from hundreds of applicants to compete in the pageant.
It was held in early March, and at the end of the day, Leslie found herself crowned as Miss Teen Central British Columbia – World, and was among the top 18 girls who will go on to compete in July at the Miss Teen Canada – World competition in Toronto.
“It was such a great experience. I met so many beautiful and talented girls who all deserved to win. Taking part in the pageant really helped my self-confidence, too,” she says.
Now, with the Miss Teen Canada – World crown on the line, she’s excited and looking forward to new opportunities it will offer, such as modeling.
“I haven’t done any modeling yet, but I’m very interested. I like fashion.”
At the Teen Canada pageant, Leslie will be judged on an interview, in a swimsuit competition and a talent show, during which she will sing.
She was one of the South Cariboo Idols 2010 top 10 finalists and she’s hoping her talent will earn her one of the competition’s cash prizes and move her on to show her stuff at the Toronto Talent Convention.
During her year as the reining Miss Teen Central British Columbia – World, Leslie will be looking for opportunities all over Central B.C. to help out, free of charge, at events, greet guests, present awards, entertain, model, hostess and engage in public speaking.
She will also be collecting money for the Free the Children campaign and gaining sponsors for herself. She can be contacted at TeenCentralBC2011@hotmail.com.
