Music lovers in Golden can rejoice for the second half of Kicking Horse Culture’s Live Kicks lineup, which has been released on their website.
Starting the second half of the season off with “an East Coast kitchen party to warm up a cold night,” the Derina Harvey Band comes to the Golden Civic Centre on January 17. Including tasty originals, heartfelt traditional tunes, classic Canadiana, and covers from diverse artists, this is a show not to miss. The Derina Harvey Band came to Golden a few summers ago for Summer Kicks, so some people have the chance to see them again, and those who haven’t get to enjoy the new experiencenand enjoy music played to high-energy perfection.
Coming up in February, Rick Scott performs with Nico Rhodes. The roots and grooves music combines good humour with extraordinary musicianship. Scott has been an integral part of the Canadian cultural scene since 1972, and Rhodes has been performing and touring with his mother Joelle Rabu. Rhodes has performed at the Civic Centre with his mother before, and comes back again to perform with Scott on February 2.
Following the annual Snow King MasquParade in Spirit Square on February 16, The Marc Atkinson Trio with Cameron Wilson will perform swinging grooves that are melodically capitvating and technically awe-inspiring on February 21.
It Feels Like Home combines two of the best singers in the West Kootenays, Laura Landsberg and Allison Girvan, and they play on March 8. They will offer a sensational evening of progressive folk, bluegrass, and world music, backed up by an all-acoustic quartet.
Ending the Live Kicks winter season on April 11 brings Kenny “Blues Boss” Wayne. The charismatic showman is performing with a killer quintet. Wayne is a prodigy on the piano, and has been a part of the music scene for more than 60 years.
All of the Live Kicks shows take place at the Civic Centre, beginning at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available in advance at the Art Gallery of Golden, or at the door on the night of the show.
