Two live concerts in September will wrap up the summer concert series at one of Chilliwack’s cosiest music venues.
Bozzini’s Upstairs Lounge offers up shows by WiL on Sept. 4 and Suzie Ungerleider on Sept. 18.
WiL (full name William Himnaugh) on guitar and vocals, along with Keith “Chopper” Gallant on the drums, are known for incredible song writing and energy, a musical force that few forget once they’ve seen them live. They’re at Bozzini’s for one show only on Sept. 4.
On Sept. 18, making her first appearance at Bozzini’s will be Suzie Ungerleider (formerly known as Oh Susanna) touring in support of her 10th album ‘My Name is Suzie Ungerleider’. She’ll be in town for two shows and accompanied by guitarist Paul Pigat (Cousin Harley).
For more than two decades, thousands of shows, and nine critically acclaimed albums, Ungerleider’s gloriously emotive, crystalline voice, her bewitching performances and her fierce song-writing have consistently captivated audiences, her peers and the press. But now she officially opens a new chapter of her already distinguished and highly successful career with the release of her new album.
Bursting with her trademark evocative melodies and trenchant lyrics, it’s the 10th solo studio album by the American-born, Canadian-raised artist revered for such landmark records as Johnstown, Sleepy Little Sailor and A Girl In Teen City. It’s also her first since the artist formerly known as Oh Susanna announced that she would now record and perform under her birth name.
Ungerleider grew up loving British punk as much as Hank Williams, and her roving tunes invigorate with a rascally sense of adventure and musical dynamism. Whether belting out a high lonesome chorus or sweetly lilting along, there’s an honesty that leaves folks no choice but to believe her tales of heartache and rebels, dreamers, darkness, and beauty on the fringes.
She is the recipient of a Genie Award for Best Original Song and a Canadian Folk Music Award for English Songwriter of the Year. She has also been nominated for two Juno Awards each for Best Roots and Traditional Album of the Year, as well as two Canadian Folk Music Awards for Best Solo Performer and for Best Contemporary Singer of the Year.
