Thompson-Okanagan artists have until Oct. 11 to submit their work for the opportunity to have it sold at the new art kiosk in the departures lounge of the Kelowna International Airport (YLW).
“There aren’t very many restrictions, other than price point, subject matter and size,” said Julia Trops, Sukwtemsqilxw West Kelowna Arts Council (SWAC) chair. “Artwork must be no more than $200, original and Okanagan themed, creating a tangible memory for our visitors.”
Artists’ works will be selected by a blind jury, with the focus on quality. The cost to submit work is only $30, which includes a membership to SWAC. Selected works will be sold by Skyway, YLW’s concessionaire, and artists will pay a 25 per cent commission.
“This is not an art show,” emphasized Trops. “The goal of YLW’s art kiosk is to sell works and generate revenue for our local artists.”
“YLW plays a vital part in the economic development and prosperity of the Okanagan Valley, and the door is now open for artists. If even 0.5 per cent of all traffic buys a piece of art for $200, that equates to more than $1 million in income for our valley artists.”
