The Ladysmith Camera Club has changed its focus to include more scope in the way its members capture the art of photography.
Brad Grigor, one of the founding members of the club first formed in 2008, said they have been making an effort to put more emphasis on night photography and iconic locations and sights within the area.
“We’ve really amped that up in the last 18 months,” Grigor said.
Another point of focus for the club is fostering an understanding of the process involved in taking thoughtful photographs.
Grigor said. “As digital cameras have evolved, the vast majority of photos are taken on smart phones,” he said. “People are losing appreciation for image making as an art form.”
The Ladysmith Camera Club has close to 40 members and brings in guest presentations to speak about their work at their monthly meetings. Members’ photographs for the month before are reviewed as well, and a photo is selected that best captures the theme for that month.
“We focus on fostering awareness on photography as an art form and a hobby,” Grigor said. “The aim is to expand and enhance skills and enjoyment and see what other people are doing.”
The next meeting Oct. 25 at 7 p.m. at Hardwick Hall at 232 High St. features a presentation by Bruce Whittington from Bayview Framing on how to make photo cards for resale or personalized cards for holidays and special occasions.
Membership cost $35 a year, and there is a $5 drop-in fee for non members.
