It’s that time again, where our local celebrities strut their stuff in Campbell River’s Dancing with the Stars, taking place on Saturday, Oct. 19 at the Eagle’s Hall.
All proceeds are going towards the Campbell River Perinatal Society’s New Dawn House; a facility that will help at risk pregnant, and new mom’s make vital changes for their own future, and especially the future of their new child.
Now in its third year, the team has really come up with an amazing competitive show. Keeping with the format similar to the popular TV show, Campbell River’s version has judges and entertainment. And of course, you can vote online for your favourite star, even before the event. You vote with your money at www.newdawnhouse.org. Each vote costs $5, and can be purchased at the actual event or online anytime. And you can vote as many times as you like!
Pam from Stereo Fitness, Buddy and Carmen from CR Dance Extreme, Tricia from Goddess Belly Dance and Heather Larkum from Urban dance are the professionals who have been paired up with our celebrities to put on quite an amazing show.
Warren Andrews is familiar to sports fans, as he is heard on 99.7 the River as an on-air announcer. He promises to shimmy and shake his way into the heart of the judges. With his vast dance experience in the high school musical “Cybernella”, he promises to be a crowd pleaser.
Sheila Jager is a well know figure in town – just about anyone who has had a baby in CR will know her expertise as a midwife. But did you know she has a closet full of medals for highland dance? And then there was that jive contest at the Club Med in Martinique. She is full of suprises, and her much anticipated resurgence on the dance floor is creating quite a buzz.
Don’t be fooled by Brylan Gruber’s mellow appearance, he’s a tiger on the dance floor. Recently graduating from the Elaine Benes School of Dance, he’s considered a secret weapon in this competition. The judges are expecting much from this newcomer to the show.
Amanda Raleigh is a Campbell River girl through and through, and could just win as a crowd favourite. She’s an organizer extraordinaire – which means her timing and intricate foot work could be unbeatable. The judges and the crowd anxiously anticipate a great performance.
Rick Yurkewich is originally a Manitoba man, where his dancing career started in a plaid suit – and he’d like to personally thank “Stairway to Heaven” for all those great, long, last slow dances at high school. A self confessed “shy guy”, he’s saving it all for his performance. Will we see the plaid suit?
Tickets are $35, and you can visit the web site for placing votes and purchasing tickets.
