Local groups get arts council grants

Artists and cultural organizations can apply for grants from the council—a publicly funded, independent agency of the B.C. government.

The B.C. Arts Council board has approved two grants for organizations in Kelowna, which together total $39,400.

The Kelowna Ballet Society will get $15,000 and the Okanagan Symphony Society will receive $24,400 from the council.

“A healthy arts scene strengthens local culture and also goes a long way towards generating tourism and helps create a sense of community, said Kelowna-Mission MLA Steve Thomson in announcing the grants for the two local organizations.

Artists and cultural organizations can apply for grants from the council—a publicly funded, independent agency of the B.C. government.

The council enlists the input of the B.C. arts community to evaluate funding applications through an independent peer review process.

A variety of cultural organizations receive BCAC grants, including community arts councils, art galleries, museums, orchestras, film societies, theatres and publishing companies.

BCAC grants enable key arts organizations to provide funding for many individual artists and cultural activities.
