Catch some sizzle in Surrey this weekend as the Surrey Christmas Bureau brings a little Latin love to the city.
¡Viva Surrey! is a showcase of Latin American culture, featuring traditional Mayan marimba by Alejandro Ruiz, tribute artist Luisa Marshall (as pop singer Selena), salsa band Moviendolo with Edwin Martinez, and dancers Alberto Gonzales and Teresa Szefler.
Local restaurants will also have authentic Latin American food available for purchase and there will be a silent auction and prize draw.
Proceeds from the evening will benefit the Surrey Christmas Bureau (SCB).
“Each year more and more people from Latin America move into our city,” said K.C. Gilroy, coordinator of the SCB. “Viva Surrey is a perfect place to learn more about our neighbours and their culture and support a good cause at the same time.”
The bureau served about 1,700 families last year, including 5,000 children. Funds raised help ensure every family in Surrey has access to toys, gifts and nutritious food during the holidays.
¡Viva Surrey! takes place Feb. 9, 6:30 p.m., at St. Bernadette’s Hall, 6543 132 St. Tickets ($15) are available by calling 604-581-9623.
