LRCA Concerts in the Park series presents: The Soul Shakers

The Soul Shakers are set to sing their hearts out at Concerts in the Park this Sunday

Victoria based R&B group, The Soul Shakers are set to sing their hearts out at Concerts in the Park this Sunday.

The Soul Shakers are five talented musicians and vocalists led by lead singer Joyce “the voice” Allensen. They have performed at numerous Victoria venues including the TD Jazz Fest and the Summertime Blues Festival in Nanaimo. This will be their first show in Ladysmith.

“We’re really looking forward to it,” bassist Henning Kanstrup said. “We were excited to get the opportunity to play up that way.”

At performances The Soul Shakers are renowned for their vocal skills. They perform a mix of well known covers and original music, including songs off of their EP, Love is Love, (2015), and accapella songs. The Soul Shakers defy genres, and bring their own unique style to a range of music.

“A lot of our performances are vocally based. We pride ourselves on doing strong, tight harmonies. A lot of groups don’t have that as a feature, and having five strong singers in the band really makes that a strong part of what we put out there,” Kanstrup said.

The Soul Shakers have been working on a project for some time now. They are hoping to release their full length album some time in September. It will be their first full length studio album of original work.

Prior to their album release, The Soul Shakers have a summer jam packed with shows, all of which are in Victoria. Ladysmith residents won’t have another opportunity to see the band until October 12, when they perform at Osborne Bay Pub in Crofton.

Kanstrup hopes Ladysmith brings their voices to Transfer Beach, and start practicing their vocal warmups in advance.

“We hope the people of Ladysmith will come down, enjoy our music, and get involved in the performance, that’s a big part of what we do,” Kanstrup said.
