Macabre musical comedy, ‘The Addams Family’, comes to haunt Duncan in January

Students from Grades 11-12 will climb out of their graves to entertain you in this fun show

Cowichan Secondary’s arts program is in the final stages of rehearsal for its production of that magnificently macabre musical, The Addams Family: A New Musical Comedy.

The show will be performed at École Mount Prevost, 6177 Somenos Rd. on Jan. 16- 19 and Jan. 24-26 starting at 7:30 p.m. nightly.

The musical was created by an award-winning team that includes authors Marshall Brickman, Rick Elice (Jersey Boys) and composer-lyricist Andrew Lippa (The Wild Party).

Organizers are promising to delight audiences with humour, an original story, songs and dances, and all your favorite Addams Family characters.

In the kooky, upside-down world of the Addams Family, a grave crisis is brewing.

It is every father’s worst nightmare but in reverse. Daughter Wednesday, the ultimate Princess of Darkness, has grown up and fallen in love with a “normal” young man, Lucas Beineke, from a quite respectable Ohio family — not even remotely fiendish.

Worse, the romance seems to have turned the steadfastly gloomy Addams girl downright cheery, leaving her family very worried and distressed. Comic chaos reigns when they host a dinner for Wednesday’s new boyfriend and his parents so they can become better acquainted with the entire Addams family.

A band of spirited ancestors from diverse past generations also haunt the scenes. Their singing and dancing, like that of the main characters, is a special treat, along with the usual gang of Fester, Lurch and of course, the seemingly ageless Grandma.

Look forward to torturous good humour as students from Grades 11 and 12 bring us this Broadway hit musical, just in time to brighten January’s dull days.

Doors will open at 7 p.m. and show time is 7.30 p.m. Tickets are available online at www.brownpapertickets.com/event/3787406 or at the door and are $18 for adults and $15 for students/seniors. Come, enjoy and help support the Arts programmes at Cowichan Secondary School.
