This weekend, Madeline Tasquin will be visiting Home Sweet Home.
The singer and songwriter is bringing her most recent tour to Harrison Hot Springs, where she lived in 1998 and ’99, while graduating from high school. She’ll perform Sunday, Nov. 10 at the Layback Lounge, the third show in a tour that spans from Washington to California, and then to France and Germany.
Tasquin spent the first 18 years of her life in B.C., raised by her opera singer mother and gold miner father.
She learned to play the piano as a youngster, and picked up the ukelele in recent years.
Singing in both English and French, her songs dip from jazz-tinged folk to odd-meter soul, to twisted pop ballad and delicate folk fairytale. Her music has been described as “a musical tea party with Kate Bush, Joni Mitchell, Joanna Newsom and Edith Piaf.”
Tasquin said she’s excited to be returning to Harrison Hot Springs. She spent a year writing and recording her debut EP, Another Trip Around the Sun, which she released independently in June 2012. Before heading back into the studio, Tasquin is touring extensively with her new set: a repertoire that dips closer to soul than the orchestral-pop flavor of her 2012 release.
Her show at Layback Lounge Sunday night starts at 8:30 p.m.
Owner Tim Flanagan announced earlier this week that the Layback will be closing for good at the end of November. Tasquin is one of many performers he’ll be bringing in throughout the month.
