Magic of Christmas returns to Langley this weekend

The City's annual Magic of Christmas event and parade is on Dec. 1.

Rain won’t dampen the Christmas spirit in Langley this weekend.

Regardless of weather, the City’s annual Magic of Christmas Parade will make its way down Fraser Highway on Dec. 1.

At 6 p.m., the floats, bands, vehicles, dancers, and community groups will start at Fraser Highway and 56th Ave., travel east along Fraser Hwy., and finish at Fraser Hwy. and 207th St.

Lisa’s School of Dance is a parade regular – they’ve been entering the parade for approximately ten years, and this year is no exception.

“It’s a huge part of the culture at the studio,” said Lilly Coady, Lisa’s School of Dance performer and receptionist.

“It’s all about family and celebrating together. Having an event like this where we can be with one another and show the town what we can do – it’s awesome.”

Usually it’s kids and teens dancing in the parade, but Coady said for the first time this year, the adult dance class is also participating.

“It’s going to be a big entry – I think it’s the biggest we’ve had yet. It’s tons of fun for everybody.”

And there’s more than just the parade ringing in the holiday season on Dec. 1.

The all-day event kicks off with a Santa Claus breakfast at Douglas Recreation Centre at 20550 Douglas Cres., from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Cost is $10 per person, and children under three are free.

Pre-registration is required by calling 604-514-2940 or registering online at https://ca.apm.activecommunities.com/langleycityrecconnect/Activity_Search/breakfast-with-santa/7726

From 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., the whole family is invited to McBurney Plaza at 20518 Fraser Hwy. for holiday entertainment and crafts.

Following the parade, the night ends with the Mayor and Council lighting up the Christmas tree at McBurney Plaza, followed by hot chocolate and caroling.

City councillor Paul Albrecht has been the co-chair of the organizing committee for four years and said the event “really sets the holiday spirit for me.”

“It seems to bring people together in a very fun and rewarding way, generates a true feeling of caring and giving, as well as provides an event for all people of all ages to enjoy and participate in.”
