For more family-friendly fare, the Vernon Performing Arts Centre’s kids series has something for the child in everyone. The series opens with one of Canada’s most loved children’s entertainer, Fred Penner, Oct. 6, performing his hits such as The Cat Came Back, Sandwiches and Riders in the Sky
A number of children friendly puppet shows are also coming to the stage, starting with America’s Got Talent semifinalists Lightwire Theatre, who take the stage Nov. 23 with their visually stunning adaptation ofThe Ugly Duckling and The Tortoise and the Hare.
“The company uses life-size puppets and new light-wire technology that makes them come alive as well as stunning neon lighting. You won’t want to miss it,” said Kennedy, adding the show is a special presentation, with higher pricing, and is included as a bonus show in the kids’ series subscription.
Puppets will also enact the steampunk- inspired adaptation of the Jules Verne classic 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, presented by Portland’s Tears of Joy Theatre Jan. 26.
And finally, Figura Theatre will present Peter and the Wolf, Feb. 23. Set to the Prokofiev score, the show will feature the master techniques of the national puppeteer of Iceland, Bernd Ogrodnik, using beautiful, handmade puppets.
