Have you ever wanted to paint but felt you’d be working in a vacuum?
The Maple Bay Painters has just the solution for you. Their objective is to foster a positive, creative and enjoyable environment where artists can develop their skills and share techniques.
They’ve been around since 1968. And yes, it’s just over 50 years ago that six enthusiastic women got together to paint.
Since then, Maple Bay Painters has become one of the Island’s prominent art groups, with members from all walks of life.
They’ve an upcoming show and sale at St. Peter’s Church, Quamichan, scheduled for Sept. 27-28 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with reception Friday evening, Sept. 27 from 6-8 p.m. at which guests can meet the artists and enjoy music by cellist Trisha Daniell.
The group is always concerned about giving back to the community, and through the years they’ve offered bursaries to students who share an interest in art. This year’s recipient has been invited to display work at the show, and will also feature in the 202 Maple Bay Painters calendar.
Maple Bay Painters meet weekly at the Cowichan Exhibition and through the years they bring in visiting artists and host workshops. During the summer, there are outings in plein air, plus the chance for visits to art shows and galleries.
