For September, the McMillan Arts Centre (MAC) welcomes three exhibits and the start of BC Culture Days.
The work of Cindy Mersky, Karen Poirier and Muriel Bush can be viewed from Aug. 31 until Sept. 26.
Mersky’s works were created using décollage; a technique she used based on the appearance of advertisements ripped from billboards, leaving fragments of paper and layers of previous posters.
The majority of Poirier’s paintings show a combination of flowers worked into a circular designed format. Poirier said she enjoyed experimenting with different combinations to create a pleasing image.
Several pieces of Bush’s displayed works include acrylic paintings and pencil and pen drawings. The paintings will be larger formats of her cards currently for sale in MAC’s gift shop.

Three of five BC Culture Day events will start in September, with the remaining two planned for October.
For a single day event on Sept. 12 from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m., the MAC will host the 3D Streets Arts Project for Kids, where approximately 30 to 40 youngsters will collaboratively work on a larger image, prompted by ‘paint-by-numbers’ grids.
Running from Sept. 24 until Oct. 24, the Society of Canadian Artists Digital Exhibition will be on display in the cloakroom gallery. The 10-day digital exhibition will show submissions of a juried competition by the Society of Canadian Artists.
The Exquisite Corpse Collaborative Art Project will close the month and run from Sept. 27 until Oct. 5.
This exhibit will have three artists working together to create one image, however, each artist will only be able to see a small portion of what the artist before them created, based on continuous lines.
