Michelle’s, a web series based in Hope, releases its first season this month

Composed of six episodes, the first season will be available on YouTube Jan. 31

Forget looking at your horoscope for what’s to come in 2019. We already know that your future is going to be funny, fierce and female. Coming January 31 is the much-anticipated release of the six-episode web series, Michelle’s, on the Bird Brain Productions YouTube channel.

Get ready for a hilarious dose of west coast talent, as co-creators Angela Galanopoulos and Andrew Barber have cooked up a fresh new comedy about the racy, high stakes world of late night dining in Hope, British Columbia.

The show centres around ambitious restaurant owner and head diva, Michelle Gidard, who’s played by Galanopoulos—and business is booming—but you don’t become the queen of late night dining without making a few enemies.

When a mysterious man from her past, Hank Deveraux, pays her a visit, it becomes clear that he will stop at nothing in order to destroy Michelle’s empire.

The creators of Michelle’s introduce their web series as a Canadian soap opera: it has all the hallmarks of a good soap, power, money, shoulder pads, coupled with fast-paced, committed absurdity, all the while honouring life above the 49th parallel.

Galanopoulos and Barber are both improvisors at Vancouver TheatreSports, and have assembled a stellar cast featuring some of Vancouver’s most celebrated female comedians including Elizabeth Bowen, Ese Atawo, Diana Bang, Ellie Harvie, Amy Goodmurphy, Caitlin Howden, and Clare Filipow.

Cameron Bancroft, who’s been in Beverly Hills 90210, and 24, takes on the devilish role of Hank Deveraux, while Canadian comedy legend Colin Mochrie from Whose Line is it Anyway? delights in his role as Jerry, the accountant.

The first season of Michelle’s was made possible through funding from Telus Storyhive and CreativeBC. It was produced by Brain Bird Productions and directed by Andrew Barber.
