Artist of the Year Michou will join Drum n Bass Grunge Duo USS this May for their cross-Canada tour, which comes to the Comox Valley on May 26.
The tour is supporting Michou’s latest EP Celebrate Love, which was released March 1.
Michou recently picked up the coveted Artist Of The Year Award at the 2011 Verge Music Awards, beating out some of Canada’s finest, including Arcade Fire, Stars and Tegan and Sara.
The Verge awards, sponsored by XM Canada satellite radio service, are based on online voting. Michou enticed voters by offering a free downloadable song and free concerts for the top four regions that sent in the most votes.
Hailing from Windsor, Ont., Michou is Mike Hargreaves (vocals), Sasha Appler (keys/trumpet), Ryan Frith (bass), and Stefan Cvetkovic (drums).
Combining a refreshingly light-hearted outlook with captivating melodies and honest storytelling, Michou’s DIY sensibilities and gritty work ethic has propelled them from local fan favorites in Windsor to a growing force in the Canadian music scene.
Playing over 300 shows over the last two years and sharing the stage with the likes of Lights, Dashboard Confessional, The Weakerthans, the Trews and Down with Webster, Michou’s charisma on stage, coupled with the band’s sincerity and sense of humour is what seems to fuel their ever-growing popularity.
Michou performs May 26 at the Avalanche Bar and Grill in Courtenay.
