Motherhood was a large influence in Camille Miller’s latest album.
In her fifth album, Parallel to The Sea, she shares her emotions and stories about pregnancy and her feelings about caring for new life. She recorded the album with Rick Salt of Lois Lane Studios in Nanaimo. It is the result of collaboration with many Vancouver Island musicians, including Tina Jones and Joel Spillette.
The song Tiniest of Hearts is about her first pregnancy.
“It is about being pregnant with my daughter and the feelings that came up and not knowing what was going to happen and the excitement about feeling a new life,” she said.
Despite caring for two young children Miller still finds time to write. Sometimes she writes lyrics when she is pushing the stroller on a walk, or takes time when she puts her children down for a nap.
Miller is a storyteller at heart and many of her songs have a story within them. She said it comes from growing up in a military family and moving to different bases around the country as a child. Stories became a way for her to escape while she was younger.
“I just really love storytelling all the songs have a story based on an emotion or something everyone has dealt with and can understand,” she said.

Miller performs at the Queen’s Friday (April 12). Doors open at 7 p.m. and the show starts at 8 p.m. She is performing with Grammy nominees Adrienne Pierce and Ari Shine. Tickets are $15 from the Queen’s or $20 at the door.
