The Studio Theatre’s production of the play Mindgame is now in the second week of its mesmerizing three-week run.
Written by Anthony Horowitz and directed for the Studio Theatre by Brad Lawryk Mindgame is billed “as a truly gripping thriller that keeps you guessing and marvelling from its deceptively normal opening to its fearful climax.”
The interesting thing about the play is that it is all about a mind game between the characters, but also plays a mind game with the audience.
You think you have it figured out, but your hunches are altered several times.
With the intimate setting you get up close and personal with the gory details of the scenario.
Apparently the play has the world record for the amount of dialogue between two characters in one scene.
Mindgame is set in the Fairfields Hospital for the criminally insane.
An author of true crime stories enters the institution to interview a serial killer who has been confined for 30 years.
The institution’s superintendent does not want the interview to take place.
The Studio Theatre production of Mindgame stars Curt Sprickerhoff as Dr. Farquhar, Michael Rawluk as Mark Styler and Johanna West as Nurse Plimpton.
Warning: occasional stage combat, intense scenes and brief, loud noises.
Mindgame was a riveting hit in London’s West End and later Off-Broadway starring Keith Carradine directed by Ken Russell.
“This production has been physically, mentally, and emotionally demanding,” says Lawryk. “With over 65 years of theatre experience between the two lead actors alone, our Mindgame team hopes to present our audiences with an amazing experience that will be talked about for days to come.”
Mindgame is on stage at the Studio Theatre Friday, Nov. 18 and Saturday, Nov. 19 and for the final week on Wednesday, Nov. 23, Thursday, Nov. 24, Friday, Nov. 25, and Saturday, Nov. 26 starting at 8 p.m. each evening.
Tickets are available on the Studio Theatre website and at The Open Book, Kit and Kaboodle and Aboutface Photography.
