Weekend rains threatened to drown the crowds at the 28th annual Mission Folk Music Festival on Friday night, but the dedicated fans stayed on, with their umbrellas and rain coats offering protection.
The weather was perfect on Saturday, however, and the folk fest fan turnout numbers were healthy. The fans were rewarded with a wide range of music from around the world, at intimate smaller stages during the daytime workshops and on the main stage in the evenings.
The festival committee is working on next year’s event as well as a major 30th anniversary Folk festival in 2017, the same year that Canada is celebrating its 150th year of Confederation and Mission City is marking its 125th anniversary.
The Haya quintet from Mongolia were one of the big hits on the Mission Folk Festival stages over the weekend, with their unique blend of traditional and modern music.
The festival genres ranged from the pipes of Scotland and Ireland to the folk-rock style of Canada’s Jenny Ritter and band.
