A brand new music festival is coming to Mission this summer.
The inaugural Iron Mountain Music Festival is set to take place on July 14 and 15 at Mission’s Eighteen Pastures Golf Course.
The lineup includes a mix of top-shelf blues headliners, as well as local and international artists encompassing a great mix of rhythm and blues, soul, funk and even a little jazz.
Each day of the festival will feature three evening artists that organizers say could each be festival headliners in their own right.
On July 14, the acts include Vancouver’s contemporary blues artists Harpoonist and the Axe Murderer followed by sultry blues rocker Dana Fuchs. The night wraps up with the legendary Elvin Bishop (Fooled Around and Fell In Love).
On July 15, the three main acts are the vivacious Nikki Hill, followed by serious blues rock guitarist Popa Chubby and the Fabulous Thunderbirds (Wrap It Up, Tuff Enuff).
Four daytime artists, during both days of the festival, will also perform.
Blues enthusiasts can check out Vancouver favourite Harpdog Brown and the Uptown Blues Band, Portland’s Robbie Laws, the Rae Gordon Band, Kelowna’s Rick “Poppa Dawg” Halisheff, and Fraser Valley’s Hell’s Gate Blues Band.
Soul, funk and R&B fans will love both Coco Jafro and Emily Chambers.
Rounding out the mix is a band that organizers think will appeal to fans of all genres and that is Sundae and Mr. Goessl with their vintage jazz.
Gates open at 9 a.m. daily and the music starts at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday and 1 p.m. on Sunday.
Camping sites are available as the Eighteen Pastures Golf Course (29110 Matheson Ave. in Mission) transforms its fairways into campgrounds for tenters and RVs too.
The roadway entrance becomes a natural midway for the numerous food and beverage vendors who will cater to most every taste.
The event is produced by Smoking Jack Productions Inc.
