It’s been a while since he donned a tuxedo, but local operatic tenor Paul Moore is ready to get back in black for a concert he is giving Thursday at Trinity United Church.
“I will be singing all sorts of opera arias, some English songs, some musical theatre and Neapolitan songs from Italy as well,” said Moore. “I’m finding beautiful and powerful melodies, and, well, there’s a lot of them in my program for this show.”
A co-founder of Studio Moore and A Merry Moore Christmas, Moore grew up in Armstrong, and later studied voice at The Juilliard School in New York City, UVic, McGill, the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria, and the Israeli Vocal Institute.
In addition to his studies with renowned baritone Sherrill Milnes and Canadian opera legend Louis Quillico. Moore has studied with Ed Zambard at Juilliard; vocal coach Joan Dornemann, assistant conductor for The Metropolitan Opera and co-founder of the International Vocal Arts Institute; and Canadian coach and CBC personality Stuart Hamilton.
He has sung professionally in most major Canadian cities with opera companies and symphony orchestras as well as numerous national CBC broadcasts and is founder and director of the Okanagan Vocal Arts Festival and Opera in the Park.
Besides his tenor tendencies, Moore is also known as the lead vocalist of Vernon rock band The Goods.
Joining him for his Vernon performance will be piano accompanist Sandra Fletcher.
“I like having her play for me,” said Moore. “She is funny and not afraid to be different. I am the same way. I have never chosen a path that I was not ready to question if it didn’t make sense… the same is with my music.”
