Moscow Ballet is holding auditions for local youth dancers in Vancouver this Sunday for its upcoming production, the Great Russian Nutcracker.
Taking place Sept. 15 at 12:30 p.m. at Grand Ballet Vancouver, professional ballerina Olena Pedan will audition and rehearse children ages 6 to 17 years with at least one year of ballet training.
These auditions are part of Moscow Ballet’s community engagement program Dance with Us, which brings the historic Russian Vaganova ballet pedagogy to North American children. As many as 6,000 student ballet dancers will perform on stage side-by-side with 40 Russian professionals.
Children’s roles in the Vancouver performances are as Party Children, Mice, Snowflakes, Snow Maidens and more.
The selected children will perform in the Great Russian Nutcracker on Saturday, Nov. 10 at 2 and 6 p.m. at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre.
Auditions are free, but there may be a casting fee. Dress rehearsal is on stage with the Russian company and children’s costumes are provided by Moscow Ballet.
Rehearsals run through the fall and take place at the Moscow Ballet host studio, Grand Ballet Vancouver, located at 2503 Kingsway.
