A new cafe aims to bring a fresh serving of live music to the Parksville Qualicum Beach area.
The Music Cafe is open as of June 3 and owners Peter Bratton and Faye Hansen say it’s been going great so far.
“The whole purpose of it is about music and it’s to provide a venue for local artists to perform,” said Bratton. “Everybody told us it’s really, really needed. From the older people, to the younger people as well.”
The pair have lived in the area for a couple of years, moving from Richmond. Hansen is a musician, who plans to bring her own act to the cafe.

They’re opening their businesses under health protocols due to COVID-19, but say they’ve been able to adjust. They can fit 20 people in the space with proper distancing right now and once restrictions are lifted, they’re licensed for 46 people.
“We have a nice stage set up with lighting, PA equipment, and we’ve had four performances so far, and it’s just been fantastic,” said Bratton. “We have to be creative with the seating, keeping everyone apart, but it’s worked so far.”
The venus has music on Thursday, Friday and Saturday night, as well as Sunday afternoon. You can see their calendar of music at themusiccafe.ca and check them out in person at 631 Island Highway E. in Parksville.
