Summer is here, and that means so is Music in the Park.
Langford’s annual two-month music festival returns July 3 to Veteran’s Memorial Park, filling Sunday afternoons with song. After a dozen years, organizer Peter Willing said the shows are still going strong and continue to be a win-win for everyone in the community.
“It’s good for the musicians; they love it and it’s a great Sunday afternoon of free entertainment for the public,” he said.
“Where (else) can you go and hear great talent, great bands for free and sit in the grass and have a hotdog and a nice Sunday afternoon?”
Nine different bands will play in the park, starting with Matheson. Among the other bands on tap are Rukus, the Groove Diggers, Maureen Washington Quartet and the Ready Willing Band. With the waterpark there, Willing said there are no excuses for the public not to come out and enjoy the family-friendly event.
“The kids are in the fountain dancing around and parents get to watch the music and watch their kids,” he said. “It makes for a well-rounded day for people.”
The Royal Canadian Legion’s Prince Edward Branch 91 in Langford will have volunteers on hand selling hot dogs, snacks and drinks, raising money for the variety of community programs they support across the West Shore. All performances happen at Veterans Memorial Park, at the corner of Veterans Memorial Parkway and Goldstream Avenue. They run from 2 to 4 p.m. Sundays from July 3 to Aug. 28.
