This one-woman blockbuster premiered in the fall of 2015 and has received two Ovation Awards by the Applause Musical Society and was nominated for a Jessie Richardson award for Outstanding Musical Production.
It’s rough material, brought to the public in a concert setting that sees the character take the stage for her first performance in years.
The appearance of one, uninvited guest sees the performer’s music takes on a life of its own.
Directed by Reneé Iaci and starring Daune Campbell and Amanda Testini, Love Bomb takes what Iaci calls “a searing and emotionally brave look at sex trafficking in British Columbia and the many lives that have been and continue to be affected by this epic problem.”
The production features nine original songs written by Steve Charles with book and lyrics by Meghan Gardiner.
According to Iaci, the mandate of Vancouver’s Shameless Hussy Productions is “telling provocative stories about women to inspire the hand that rocks the cradle to rock the world” and this is one that needs to be told.
“We search for and create work that provokes a deeper understanding of women’s past, present and potential and bring it roaring onto stages across Canada and the US . Previous productions mounted for young audiences include our original play about women’s suffrage, Woman Idiot Lunatic Criminal, and [Gardiner’s] Dissolve,” she said.
This show, for young people (over age 12) and adults, will be presented by Shameless Hussy Productions and the Warmland Women’s Support Services Society at the Duncan United Church at 246 Ingram St.
Tickets are $10 each. Get them by contacting kthomas@warmlandwomen.org but don’t delay. Seating is limited.
