Musical duo Roberts Hall are bringing their alt-folk sound to Fernie and will be playing at Infinitea on Apr. 29.
Roberts Hall is comprised of Brandon Holm and Etienne McGuigan, who have been playing together for just under two years. They just released their first full length album I’ll Send a Friend on Apr. 1. The cross Canada tour is in support of their new album.
“We started in Nanaimo on Vancouver Island, where we are based and will be playing in Moncton and Halifax this upcoming weekend and then heading back, playing Fernie on April 29,” said Holm, speaking to The Free Press from Toronto, where they were playing a show on Apr. 15.
Holm and McGuigan share the vocals and experiment with drums, guitars and a synthesizer.
“We play some traditional folk songs but also some more indie rock stuff. I play drums and some synthesizer, so there are some electric elements to it, but pulling back from some traditional stylings,” said Holm.
The Fernie show is the second last performance on the tour. Their final show is in Kaslo the following evening before they make their way back to their home base on Vancouver Island. Holm and McGuigan will have driven across Canada, coast-to-coast and back in one month for their tour. Holm says it’s important to have a good idea about what you are getting into before embarking on a large tour of that kind.
“Knowing what you are getting into. We had done a few small ones together so we knew how to keep it real,” he said. “Fortunately we have a bed in the back of the car there so we can do some emergency sleeps if we need to.”
The duo are bringing their indie sound to Infintea on Apr. 29, taking the stage at 8 p.m.
