Bring your Canadian Tire money to the Corin Raymond concert this coming Saturday evening, March 31at the Sunnybrae Hall.
Why?
Because Canadian singer-songwriter Corin Raymond is trying to raise enough Canadian Tire money to pay for the production of his newest CD.
Raymond and his back-up band, the Sundowners, are currently working on a live album, due out in November. Rogue Studios in Toronto, where the live tracks will be mixed and mastered, have agreed to take the Canadian Tire money at par. So far Raymond has raised just over $3,000 of the $10,000 he needs to produce the CD.
The Sunnybrae gig is the last show of their current tour.
Raymond says that the new CD will be comprised of cover tunes by many of his peers – singers and songwriters from all across the country.
As for Raymond’s music, it has been said that Corin Raymond is a young songwriter who writes old songs. They are not necessarily songs written deliberately in an old style, but songs that sound like they’ve been around for a long time – longer than say, well 39-year-old Raymond himself.
Born in Winnipeg, and raised in northern Ontario, Raymond says his sound has been forged in the fire of hundreds of gigs in bars and clubs, concerts and coffee houses, not to mention festivals in Canada, Europe and Australia.
“Most of my songs are story driven. Stories are what happen when you get out in front of an audience,” he adds. “I’ve been doing this for ten years… working hard. Now the stories just happen.”
After two successful solo CD’s Record Lonesome Night in 2005 and There Will Always Be A Small Time in 2009, Raymond is currently touring with an all-star band. The Sundowners consists of Treasa Levasseur, Brian Kobayakawa and David Gavin Baxter.
“Each musician brings their own creative talents to the band” says Raymond.
Tickets for the March 31 concert are $15 at Acorn Music and Synergy Studios. The concert starts at 7 p.m.
A Million Dollars in Pennies, a local band made up of Mike Shaver on guitar, banjo and vocals and Stephanie Webster on guitar and vocals will be warming up the crowd.
