Those wandering the streets of downtown Vernon may notice a few new sights –– and sounds –– in a cultural project initiated by the Downtown Vernon Association (DVA).

Street Sounds, a live entertainment program which continues throughout August, features an array of local artists performing on sidewalks in the downtown core.

The public is welcome to come out and enjoy these free lunchtime performances that take place from 11:30 a.m. until 2 p.m., Tuesday through Friday.

“We are excited to be launching this new program, which will create a fantastic cultural experience when you visit Downtown Vernon,” said Holly Schmidt, DVA events and marketing manager.

Artists Tanya Lipscomb, Jayme McKillop, and Manfred Harter are just a few of the talented musicians who will be delivering fresh sounds to downtown patrons. The musicians will be playing on various days and in various locations until the end of the month.

The schedule this week and next is as follows: Today, on the 3000-block of 30th Avenue, is Tanya Lipscomb; Tuesday, 2900-block, Jayme McKillop; Wednesday, 3400-block, Dave McBride; Thursday, 3200-block, Danielle Prince and Tracy Jones, and Friday, Aug. 12, 3300-block, is Manfred Harter.

More details of who’s performing each day and the locations where the performances will take place are available at the DVA website, www.downtownvernon.com, or by calling the DVA office at 250-542-5851.
