Oyama is about to transform into the summer of love when Gatzke Orchards, The Big Blue Stage and Vancouver guitar whiz Jason Buie present an inaugural event celebrating the music of Woodstock.
The all-day, all-ages event takes place Sunday, July 15 at Gatzke Orchard, a setting that will rekindle the spirit of the 1969 festival, famed as much for the hippy movement as the musicians who played there.
The show will feature some of the hottest talent from Western Canada playing the music from Woodstock.
“Renowned Vancouver guitarist Jason Buie has worked with Gatzke Orchard to create an event that is a guaranteed good time,” said William Holzer, event and marketing coordinator at Gatzke.
Other bands on the bill include Vancouver blues diva Ellie Johnson, Vernon’s Linda-Sue Wilson, Salmon Arm’s Dan Engelland, Kathy Frank, Bob Grant and special g uests.
Attendees can wear their favourite hippy attire, with prizes given to the best dressed. Camping on site is also offered for $10, with a pancake breakfast on the Monday morning for $7.
The event will also feature an arts and crafts fair, food and drink, and an all-star jam.
Gates open at noon and the show will go to midnight.
Tickets for Celebrating The Music of Woodstock and The Summer of Love are $20 (children 12 and under are free) at Gatzke Farm Markets store, www.gatzkefarmmarkets.com, 250-808-3628.
