A quiet farming community is about to have a mystery on its hands when North Okanagan Junior Academy stages A Spallumcheen Christmas Mystery on Saturday.
This original musical theatre production, starring NOJA students from kindergarten to Grade 8, is set in the 1920s in the township of Spallumcheen and centers around the reactions of the townspeople when a stranger arrives to the Grandview Flats area — a big deal considering it was then, and still is, a tight-knit community.
“The ending is a mystery to everyone that will not be revealed until the final scene of the play on the night of the performance,” said director Laurisa Defehr, adding only two people know how the play ends.
One of them includes local writer Mark Trussell, who wrote the music and script for the NOJA students as a way to celebrate Spallumcheen’s 120th anniversary this year.
Audiences can see how the play ends for themselves when A Spallumcheen Christmas Mystery takes the stage at the school, located at 4699 South Grandview Flats Rd., Saturday at 7 p.m. Admission is free. For more information, contact the school office at 250-546-8330.
