The Nanaimo Art Gallery’s Saturday Studio art classes for kids begin on Jan. 7.
The first class is Making Marks on Jan. 7, where participants will explore work by abstract expressionists Elaine de Kooning, Mary Abott and others.
On Jan. 14, kids will experiment with watercolours during the Watery Creatures class. The participants will drip and pool paint on their paper and then use black marker to define shapes of creatures.
Salmon Journey, on Jan. 21, is led by indigenous education coordinator Arlene Deptuck. She’ll share Tsimshian stories and demonstrate how the Kitsumkalum First Nation observed the salmon journey.
On Jan. 28 kids will tour the new exhibit during Landfall and Departure: Prologue.
Saturday studio classes run from 9:30-10:30 a.m. for ages five to seven and 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for ages eight to 12.
