Since the late ’80s Nanaimo musician Michael Patrick and his band Black Cat Bone have hosted a Christmas benefit at the Queen’s. After taking a few years off, Patrick is back and hopes to restore the event to its former glory.
“This year we really want to get the whole community out to support this,” Patrick said.
This year’s edition of the show comes to the Queen’s on Dec. 17 and features performances from David Gogo, Ramblin’ Man, Femme Fatales, Black Cat Bone, the Thieves, Cosmosaurus, Don’t Freak Out and Whitey Somers.
Money raised will support the 7-10 Club, an organization that Patrick said seems to get less attention. He said the groups were eager to donate their time to the cause.
“As soon as I mention I’m going to do it my phone starts ringing off the hook, actually,” he said. “Everybody wants to be in it and we’ve only got a finite amount of lots.”
Patrick said at its height the benefit show was a day-long affair.
“If we can get this thing going this year … and it does well, we could bring it back to the way it used to be,” he said. “Which we’d start at 12 noon and we’d go all day and all night long.”
