The Nanaimo Concert Band is preparing to delight audience members during its upcoming Music Fun in the Fall concert.
The concert is Sunday (Nov. 6) at 2:30 p.m. at the Port Theatre.
“Overall it’s just going to be a really fun concert,” said Shari Barker, publicist for the Nanaimo Concert Band. “It’s a real fun one this time. It’s lighthearted rather than a more a serious one.”
Traditionally the fall concert has a Remembrance Day theme, and while there will still be a few songs that honour the occasion, there will also be a mix of other genres such as movie themes.
Barker said this concert the band members challenged themselves with the music presented.
“We like to do challenges. It seems to get the audience going and us too, because if you don’t take on challenges you don’t better yourself,” said Barker.
The concert features three soloists. Nicola Crowhurst, saxophone, will play a piece called Persuasion; Paul Rathke, flugelhorn, plays Moon River by Henri Mancini and Richard Perks, clarinet, plays Café Concert No. 1.
New members joining the concert band include Silvia Mieczko and Sayaka Hirayama.
Mieczko first saw the band perform during its free concert in the park.
“I told my family and friends about the band and that I joined and they came to our summer concert,” said Mieczko, in a press release. “They liked the music so much they sat in the pouring rain with thunder and lightning all around and stayed for the whole concert.”
